Butterflies are considered as indicators of a healthy environment and ecosystems. Unlike large mammalian species, these delicate creatures are not only con ined by Protected Areas, but also found in areas with human habitation. Due to ever-rising human population their natural habitats are lost in many areas. Now-a-days butterfly gardens are considered as integrated management practice to protect this form of wildlife. The host plants and nectar plants (local variety) of butter lies are given protection in their native habitats, and caterpillars are reared on them. Establishment of ‘butterfly Park' would expedite the momentum for implementation of one of the major objectives of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 through conserving this charismatic species along with its habitats. Thus, the present proposal is conceptualised to be implemented with the following objectives:
- To conserve the larval host plants and nectar plants
- To conserve the local butterfly diversity.
- To conserve develop awareness among the students and others.
