West Bengal Biodiversity Board introduced conferment of Biodiversity Award in the year 2013. Since then, the award is being given in two categories a) Biodiversity Management Committee and b) Individual/ non-profit organisations.

The primary aim of the initiative is to recognize the efforts of communities, individuals and institutions working towards biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of biological resources, generating awareness on biodiversity and biodiversity governance. A call for nomination is being circulated through every possible means. The received nominations are screened and evaluated by an expert committee; based on their recommendation, the awardee/s is/are being chosen.

Besides, he is tirelessly trying to make people aware of biodiversity and its importance.
