‘Biodiversity Park’ is created with the focus to nurture different biodiversity components which are mostly locally threatened / less abundant species. Besides, the park will also have some aesthetic value and conservation ethics. More ever, it would generate awareness on biodiversity and related environmental issues. The Biodiversity Park depends on the local climate and geological conditions.
The components included in the Biodiversity Park are mostly –
- Indigenous Fruit Orchard.
- Medicinal Plant Garden.
- Open air butterfly conservation area.
- Water body conservation of indigenous aquatic species.
- Indigenous Crop Conservation area.
- Bambusetum
- Grass Land Wild patches with nature trail.
- Nature trail
The creation of the Biodiversity Park in our state is generally performed in convergence with the different ongoing schemes of various departments and financial support from Department of Environment, Govt. of West Bengal. West Bengal Biodiversity Board provides necessary technical supports.
For the sustainability of Biodiversity Park local people specially, the members of the self help groups are being engaged for their livelihood and economic gain.
